Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s).
-
Fiber photometry is a powerful technique for monitoring population-level calcium dynamics in awake, behaving animals. It involves the implantation of a fiber-optic cannula, which delivers excitation light to neurons that express genetically encoded calcium indicators and collects fluorescence signals that reflect calcium fluctuations. These calcium transients serve as indirect measures of neuronal activity, allowing researchers to investigate correlations between neural dynamics and behavioral states.
-
Our modules are fully no-code, meaning you can use them from start to finish without writing a single line of code. This is crucial because programming skills are often a barrier to efficient and advanced data analysis. By eliminating this requirement, we ensure that high-quality data analysis is accessible to all researchers, regardless of coding experience.
-
Although open-source software is technically free, the significant time and effort required for implementation and customization can lead to substantial hidden costs. Moreover, once deployed, these tools often suffer from poor interface design and a lack of critical features, which hampers usability. In contrast, FPA provides a robust no-code tool accompanied by expert guidance.
-
The software was initially designed to be compatible with doric hardware systems, which is what ourselves and our collaborators have primarily used. However, we can easily adapt the software to work with other systems by modifying the data extraction and organization process.
-
FPA is designed to accept Excel file inputs, as this is the most common output format from fiber photometry hardware systems. However, we can modify our software if other data input formats are required.
-
The inbuilt software systems often lack the usability and features needed to effectively process and analyze fiber photometry data sets. This is based on both our experience and that of our collaborators.
